Chapter 87 Senior's DV
Chapter 87 Senior's DV
Only when the hurried footsteps completely disappeared into the depths of the bathroom did Su Wan, like a cat satisfied after a full meal, release Lin Feng with a hint of lingering satisfaction.
Her cheeks were flushed, and her eyes glistened with moisture, making her even more charming and beautiful.
Lin Feng lowered his voice: "Wan'er, that was Sato Ichiro, your student!!"
"I know." Su Wan's tone was light, with a hint of smug satisfaction at her successful scheme.
"So... you deliberately let him see it?" Lin Feng asked in shock.
"Yeah, right." Su Wan smiled like a sly little fox. "By using him, we can spread the word about our relationship, so that... other girls won't have designs on you anymore."
As she spoke, she extended her slender finger and gently poked Lin Feng's chest, "Who told you to be so...attractive?"
The sensation from his fingertips made Lin Feng's Adam's apple bob, and he swallowed hard.
If Su Wan found out that there was someone else hiding in her family, would she tear her apart on the spot?!
Just then, Su Wan's phone rang suddenly.
Su Wan glanced at the screen, her delicate brows furrowing slightly, before answering the phone.
"Hello, Director Li... um, now?... Okay, I understand, I'll be right there."
After hanging up the phone, she turned to Lin Feng with an apologetic expression:
"There's an urgent meeting at the college, and I have to go."
She paused, her fingertips lightly tracing the back of Lin Feng's hand, "I'm afraid I won't be able to have dinner with you tonight."
Lin Feng nodded in understanding and watched Su Wan's figure disappear behind the bathroom door.
He waited alone in the corridor, and after a short while, Ichiro Sato came out of the restroom.
Upon seeing Lin Feng, he immediately revealed an expression that was a mixture of admiration and mischief, and gave Lin Feng a big thumbs up.
Lin Feng simply smiled and offered no further explanation.
Soon, Su Wan also came out.
The two naturally took hands and returned to the reading room like any ordinary couple on campus.
Su Wan neatly returned the books, quickly packed the items into her backpack, exchanged a glance with Lin Feng, and then turned and left.
Almost the instant Su Wan's figure disappeared from the reading room door, Lin Feng's relaxed expression vanished.
He quickly approached Ichiro Sato and Wasim, who were reading a book not far away, and lowered his voice, his tone unusually grave:
"Let's go back to the dorm immediately. We have an important clue to share."
........................
The door to dormitory 404 was gently closed.
Lin Feng walked straight to the window and pulled the curtains tight, suddenly dimming the room.
He took out the old-fashioned DV camera from deep inside his backpack and, under the focused gaze of the other two, pressed the play button.
The screen lit up faintly, flickered a few times, and revealed Qian Lili's pale face.
Excerpt 1:
The camera is shaky, and the background is her dormitory bed.
Qian Lili forced a smile, but her eyes were full of fear.
"Today is July 2nd. I don't know who to tell, so I can only record it."
She spoke quickly, her voice very low, "My roommate Xia He received an acceptance letter last week for the 'Qiming Future Scholar' full-funded training program from the university, and everyone is happy for her..."
The scene changes to a blurry video taken secretly with a telephoto lens.
In front of the school administration building, a crowd surrounded Xia He. Instructor Zhou wore an overly friendly smile and pinned a bright red paper flower to Xia He's chest.
Xia He was smiling, but the curve of her mouth and the lines around her eyes gave off an inhuman, stiff, and eerie feeling.
Qian Lili's trembling voice-over rang out: "Don't you think her smile... is like she's wearing a creepy mask?"
"I secretly tracked down the lists of previous rounds of this program, and those so-called 'outstanding graduates' seemed to have vanished into thin air, with no subsequent employment or further education records."
"I asked Teacher Zhou, and she looked at me meaningfully and said that the whereabouts of those senior students were 'top secret' and implied that I should not investigate further."
Segment Two:
The camera suddenly became extremely shaky, and the lighting was dim, as if it were being secretly filmed while the person was running.
Qian Lili arrived at the back mountain area of the school, which was strictly off-limits to visitors.
An inconspicuous barbed wire gate, guarded by security personnel, appears in the frame.
Behind the door, an old-fashioned teaching building stood silently, most eerily, with all its windows fitted with non-reflective black glass.
Qian Lili's voice was filled with fear: "The 'Enlightened Future Scholars' training base they mentioned... it's right in the back mountain! What exactly is inside there?"
Segment 3:
The next scene is a re-shot video with extremely low saturation, in a cold and bizarre style.
In a pure white space resembling a photography studio, a student dressed in a black graduation gown stands stiffly in front of the camera, a signature smirk on his face, holding a blank certificate.
A greasy, distorted voice came from off-screen: "Come on, look at the camera, yes, keep smiling."
The student's smirk suddenly widened, almost tearing his cheeks apart.
With a click of the camera, the student's body seemed to have its soul instantly ripped away, collapsing suddenly, only the terrifying smile on his face remained frozen in time.
Two people in protective suits, their figures indistinct, dragged the student away as if handling cargo.
The camera abruptly shifts, revealing a vast space filled with steam and the cold glow of metal.
A massive "press" of writhing flesh and cold metal pipes was in operation, emitting a dull hum.
The student was lifelessly thrown into the machine's entrance.
A clear sound of bone cracking came from the DV's speaker.
Qian Lili, her voice trembling with sobs and utter terror, whispered before completely breaking down:
"His soul was taken away... and even his body... will be 'used'... and turned into... steaks—!"
Segment 4:
The screen lit up again, and Qian Lili's face reappeared on the camera.
In stark contrast to her previous fear and haggard appearance, her face now displayed a resolute determination mixed with a sliver of hope.
The background is a dimly lit stairwell.
Qian Lili's voice was deep and carried an undeniable calmness:
"Today is August 31st. I've found... a way that might end all of this."
She paused, then looked sharply at the camera:
"The source of everything is not elsewhere, but underground in that abandoned school building on the back mountain."
The camera pans to a simple hand-drawn sketch.
On the paper, an old building shrouded in shadow looks sinister, with a huge arrow like a javelin thrusting fiercely into its underground depths.
"Below that... is a throbbing tumor, we call it the 'Lord of Laughter'..."
"Through the vascular system buried underground throughout the school, it continuously radiates the power of the rule of 'must smile' like pheromones."
"We speculate that destroying the 'Lord of Laughter' would interrupt the source radiation of the rules."
She took a deep breath, her chest heaving, forcing herself to calm down, and her tone became cold again:
"We have received reliable information: the only way to destroy it is during the trough of its cyclical power fluctuations—that is, around midnight every night..."
"Use intense negative emotional energy to impact its core, such as extreme anger, sadness, or despair."
"Physical damage is ineffective; it will only trigger an alarm."
"We...a few of us have decided to go!"
Her voice choked for a moment, but then became even more resolute, with a kind of calm acceptance of death:
"We all know that this trip might not be a chance for them to come back. But some things just have to be done!"
Her gaze drifted out of the camera's view.
"Those new freshmen... they know nothing, I can't just stand by and watch them..."
She suddenly stopped, reached out, and decisively picked up the phone next to her.
"I have to... I have to find a way to remind them. Even if I can only warn one of them, that would be good."
