Chapter 237: How About Signing a Life-and-Death Waiver First?
"A class?" ’Wait a minute, you’re not planning on taking Shi Gaofei to the K-9 unit to crash their party, are you? Pingtou can take on and beat lions. How could those police dogs possibly be a match for it?’
"Yes. For a variety of reasons, including our geographical location and the city’s development, the Yunzhong City K-9 unit has struggled to attract high-caliber professional talent. As a result, our dog training lags far behind the provincial capital and other major cities," Bai Yanni said seriously. "I just saw how swift Shi Gaofei’s attacks were, so I was thinking, maybe it could give some demonstrations for our police dogs? It would be a huge help in improving their skills."
"Look, the Yunzhong City police force has helped you out so much. Don’t you think you should do your part and cooperate a little?" Fearing Shen Yibin would refuse, Bai Yanni even brought up their past history.
"I’m willing to help, of course." If nothing else, the police guard post right outside his door made it difficult for Shen Yibin to say no. "But I don’t think Shi Gaofei will just give a proper demonstration if it goes. It’ll probably turn your whole K-9 unit upside down." Aside from "practicing" with Shen Yibin, Shi Gaofei hadn’t had a real fight in a long time. ’If it goes to the K-9 unit, won’t it just unleash all its pent-up aggression?’
"The K-9 unit has practical combat training courses, and the targets aren’t always human." More and more people have pets these days, and there’s no guarantee a criminal suspect won’t have a few vicious dogs at home. That’s why the K-9 unit has added several targeted courses. "So that’s not a problem. The better Shi Gaofei performs, the more it will help improve their skills, which will help them successfully complete missions in the future. Oh, are you worried about Shi Gaofei’s safety? Don’t worry. The dogs we’d use for this kind of training are very obedient. I guarantee there won’t be any problems."
’I’m not worried about Shi Gaofei’s safety; I’m worried about the dogs in your Yunzhong City K-9 unit getting killed!’ Not to mention the cost of purchasing suitable breeds, the combined expenses for training, food, medical care, and housing over such a long time would certainly not be a small sum. If Shen Yibin had to compensate for that in the future, it would be a devastating loss.
And money was the least of it. The handlers had worked so hard to train these police dogs. After spending so much time together, they had surely formed bonds with them. How heartbroken would they be to see their precious partners injured, or even killed, by Shi Gaofei?
"Shi Gaofei is something that can even chase off wild lions." Shen Yibin looked Bai Yanni straight in the eye, re-emphasizing the point. "I really don’t think your police dogs are any match for it. So I’m not worried about it; I’m worried about your dogs. What’s more, it doesn’t always listen to me. If it gets carried away in a fight, I’m not sure I could stop it."
To prove he wasn’t exaggerating, Shen Yibin pulled out the videos and photos he had taken, showcasing Shi Gaofei’s signature nut-cracking technique. "Now do you believe I’m not lying? It’s not that I don’t want to help. It’s just that this really won’t work."
Pingtou’s combat prowess left Bai Yanni stunned. No matter how she looked at it, she couldn’t imagine this little creature toppling a lion. But with video evidence, she had to admit that what Shen Yibin said made sense.
"Sigh. I guess we should leave professional matters to the professionals. Let me take a few pictures of Shi Gaofei, and you can send me your videos and photos. I’ll ask them about it when I get to work." Seeing the evidence, Bai Yanni was now hesitant as well.
"Wow, now that I think about it, it’s a miracle you’re still alive!" Bai Yanni subconsciously glanced at a certain part of Shen Yibin’s anatomy. ’It’s still intact, right?’
"Actually, it knows how to hold back. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have gotten away with just a few scratches." Shen Yibin now found himself defending Shi Gaofei. It was one of his store’s pets, after all. And it was true—if Shi Gaofei didn’t hold back, Shen Yibin might have been castrated by now.
"Officer Bai, I support you! You have to remember to talk to the K-9 unit tomorrow! And when the training happens, take me with you. I want to watch, too." Xia Shixuan, ever the agent of chaos, hadn’t gotten her fill of watching Shi Gaofei thrash Shen Yibin these past few days. Now that she heard there was a chance to spectate a showdown between Shi Gaofei and the police dogs, how could she possibly miss it?
"Okay, I’ll send them the materials tomorrow." By now, dinner was winding down. Bai Yanni helped them clean up, then announced her departure. "It’s getting late, I should get home and rest. I’ll call you tomorrow if I hear anything."
"Let me give you a ride. It’s hard to get a car this late." Shen Yibin quickly stood up. Bai Yanni didn’t refuse, and before long, they arrived at the foot of her apartment building.
"Want to come up for a bit? For a cup of coffee?" Bai Yanni asked with some hesitation before getting out of the car.
"Uh, maybe not. Drinking coffee this late will make it hard to sleep," Shen Yibin replied instinctively.
"Alright then. Drive safe on your way back." Bai Yanni pushed the car door open, feeling dejected. As she got into the elevator, she stared at her reflection for a long moment and muttered to herself, "Have I really lost all my charm?"
The next morning, Shen Yibin was once again dragged out for several laps by Shi Gaofei, then thoroughly thrashed, and finally helped back into the store by Sylvie.
He went next door to check on the renovation progress. The new layout was already taking shape. The thought of Hah’Er being able to climb trees and play in the store made Shen Yibin quite happy. But he froze for a moment when he looked at the dirt pit. ’Uh, when we move in after the renovations are done, it’s not going to keep digging holes, is it?’
After giving the renovation company a few instructions, Shen Yibin went back to lying on the sofa, massaging his legs. The new girls were diligently following Sylvie and Xie Nannan through their training.
Around lunchtime, Bai Yanni called. "The K-9 unit just got back to me. They think they can control the situation. So, when are you free to bring Shi Gaofei over?"
’What the hell? You saw it thrash a lion and you’re still not scared? How much confidence do you have in those police dogs?’ Shen Yibin held the phone, at a loss for words. After a long pause, he finally choked out, "Uh, about that... look, can we... can we sign a death waiver first?"
