Chapter 496 - 267: Treasure Vault, Drow, and Paladin (Part 2)
Chapter 496 - 267: Treasure Vault, Drow, and Paladin (Part 2)
The group exchanged uncertain glances upon hearing this.
Though unspoken, their expressions suggested that they all believed this to be an impossible task.
"Oh, there’s another thing," Lunen continued, "Once you obtain the two keys, the rotation angles are different. I happen to know that the design of the Hernet Family’s main gate is the same as that of our Breagan Family. The first key requires a 180-degree turn, while the second key only needs a 90-degree turn. If turned wrong or over-turned, the alarm will be triggered instantly."
Hearing this, Raine exhaled deeply.
It wasn’t all bad news; at least there was a silver lining.
For a moment, the temporary campfire site was unusually silent, except for the crackling of burning wood.
"Laisa, is it ready yet?" At this moment, Raine sniffed the air and glanced at the pan over the fire.
"It’s ready! Oh!" Laisa, who was equally absorbed, hurriedly picked up the iron pan.
"That was close! I almost overcooked it!"
"Everyone, have a taste! Iron Hills delicacy: Cave Mushroom Stew! It’s not long-neck mushrooms, but meat mushrooms are just as delicious~"
...
Just as everyone finished Laisa’s mushroom stew, Raine suddenly looked solemn and stood up, gazing toward the southwest.
Soon after, Meredith and Keller also stood up, looking in the same direction.
"At least a Fifth Level! No, it’s a Sixth Level Spell energy fluctuation!" Keller Crit called out in a low voice.
"And it’s not too far from us," Raine nodded.
The energy fluctuation from a Sixth Level Spell travels widely in open spaces, reaching several kilometers. The swamp area is quite open with no hills, no mountains, and not even dense vegetation.
"Shall we go take a look?" Laisa asked excitedly.
She hadn’t engaged in any battles since arriving in the Underdark.
"You all stay here; I’ll go have a look," Raine thought for a moment and decided.
A moment later, Raine cast a Flying Spell and swiftly skimmed toward the source of the spell’s energy waves at low altitude.
After half a minute, the energy fluctuation became increasingly clear.
"Still fighting?"
Raine was somewhat surprised.
This indicated that the two sides were evenly matched; even after one side had unleashed a Sixth Level Spell, they hadn’t been able to secure victory.
As he got closer, Raine felt that the spell energy fluctuation seemed familiar, more so confirmed by the scene that unfolded before him.
In front was a fierce battle between two factions.
The battlefield was roughly divided into two parts: on the ground, twenty elite drow and large darkfang spiders were locked in combat with a complete Adventurer Squad.
The Adventurer Squad had a Priest, a Caster, and a Shield Warrior, with Classes Levels clearly above Level 5, demonstrating strong resilience in battle.
Normally, Raine’s gaze would have been drawn to them.
But at this moment, his eyes quickly shifted upward to the mid-air scene.
Not far above the ground, a familiar figure in a priest’s robe was maneuvering a giant spider, engaging in battle with a Paladin clad in radiant silver armor, wielding a Two-Handed Greatsword glowing with a milky white light.
"It really is Rovenia! But why did she pursue them here?" Raine was slightly startled inside.
As for her opponent, Raine had no acquaintance with him.
The Paladin rode a magnificently winged steed, emanating a gentle white glow.
"Appears to be a Summoning Spell from the heavens?"
Raine pondered, intrigued.
It was his first time witnessing a battle involving a Transcendent Paladin.
Soon, Raine’s attention turned again to a familiar figure on the ground—a Wanderer he had previously encountered.
The figure appeared to be a member of the "Fiery Sky Wing" Battle Group, implying that both the Adventurer Squad before his eyes and the Transcendent Paladin should belong to the "Fiery Sky Wing" Silver Battle Group of the Urein Empire.
"Why did these two sides suddenly clash?"
Soon, Raine considered two possibilities: either Rovenia had tracked them down, leading to a conflict with the Fiery Sky Wing over their plotting of the black dragon in the Dustwake Swamp, or the Fiery Sky Wing had dispatched people to Belendaan, leading to a direct confrontation.
Raine favored the former.
Regardless of the reason, watching them fight each other was certainly advantageous.
Raine did not rush and found a hidden spot from afar, casting an Invisibility Spell to observe.
As Raine suspected.
When the first reconnaissance squad from Belendaan clashed with a Wanderer from Fiery Sky Wing, the intensity quickly escalated.
By the time Rovenia arrived, the Transcendent Paladin from the opposing side had also just arrived.
And so, the dual showdown commenced!
For Rovenia.
Though she hadn’t seen Meredith or the youth with the hammer, she naturally assumed the opposing humans were a support team.
Suddenly!
Within Raine’s field of vision.
The mid-air battle abruptly reached its climax!
The unfamiliar Paladin’s Greatsword glowed intensely, as a seven- to eight-meter-long, milky white Energy Holy Sword shot forth like an arrow, piercing through the giant spider’s defenses and then through the dark protection shield before Rovenia.
The remaining Light Saber, about as thick as a wrist, pierced through Rovenia’s abdomen.
At nearly the same moment, a dark ray shot from Rovenia’s fingertips, piercing the forehead of the winged steed and continuing forward to penetrate the Paladin’s left arm.
For a moment, it was mutual destruction!
"Master Karman!"
"(In Drow Elf language) Master Rovenia!"
With the battle reaching this point, the Adventurer Squad and elite drow, previously locked in combat, began escorting their masters away.
The sudden skirmish reached its conclusion!
Upon witnessing this, Raine’s gaze lingered momentarily on the humans, then quickly settled on the drow elves.
He vanished swiftly from the scene.
On the field.
"Master Karman, how are your wounds? Should we pursue?" The Wanderer, who Raine had seen before, asked the Paladin.
"No need!" Karman shook his head, "Inform the higher-ups of the situation here; everyone stays vigilant!"
He was somewhat perplexed.
According to intelligence, the Drow High-tier Priestess seemed to hail from a mid-sized drow city near the Dustwake Swamp called Belendaan.
However, the opponent’s territory should still be quite a distance from here, so why did they suddenly appear here?
If they knew about the Empire and Battle Group’s top-secret operation plan, they wouldn’t have come with only one Transcendent.
If not, then what was the reason?
Moreover, if he didn’t sense wrongly, the opponent seemed slightly injured.
In this crucial time of hunting the black dragon, Karman didn’t want unnecessary trouble.
...
On the other side.
Rovenia, whose injuries were more severe than Karman’s, wore a grim expression.
"Damn Meredith, to completely side with humans."
"Could it be that their rescue of Lunen has a special purpose?"
"What value does Lunen have besides being a Master Smith?"
Rovenia muttered.
At this moment, a male drow, equipped better than the others and seemingly Captain Level, stepped forward:
"Milady, did you forget? Besides being adept at smithing, Lunen once helped repair the family vault. Could it be possible that their real target is our family vault?"
This statement was like a bolt of lightning in the dark night!
Rovenia’s eyes widened, and she nodded involuntarily, "If that’s the case, everything makes sense."
In her view, humans with their greedy and cunning nature would never do anything meaningless or lose out; there must be a bigger plot if they were backing Meredith, and the treasures contained within the family vault were undoubtedly a prime temptation.
"Go, return to Belendaan immediately! I must report this to the Matron!" Rovenia instructed.
"Yes, Milady!"
"Who’s there?"
Suddenly, Rovenia turned sharply, and the giant spider instantly positioned itself in front of her.
